THE FARMERS
Update
Jen and Tyrell decided to close the farm to the public in 2024. Entrepreneurs at heart and hoping to build their community, they opened The TYRE Shop in Warburg in 2023.
Jen has shifted the gardens to more vegetables, fruits and herbs but flowers are still abundant throughout their property. Integrating more natural elements into their lives, Jen is growing medicinal herbs and plants and has brought in locally produced food at The TYRE Shop - a double whammy supporting local businesses and taking money and dependency away from the corrupt food and pharmaceutical industries.
The Story Behind the Farm
Jen and Tyrell Gruninger are 3rd generation farmers in Leduc County, Alberta.
The location, seasonality and hard work is the same as their predecessors, but the crops are not hay, grains or canola, they are FRESH CUT FLOWERS.
The functionality and layout of the property is not like conventional flower farms, planted in long rows with large quantities of crop. A Boutique Farm, meant to inspire and educate guests, there is a variety of garden garden styles and designs which include: U Pick Flower Gardens, Unique and Heirloom Perennial Gardens, Potager (Kitchen) Garden, Sunflower Dial and the Greenhouse which is used both for season extension as well as a covered event space.
Jen is a graduate of the University of Alberta Botanic Gardens, Master Gardener Program. Influenced by the Garden to Vase movement and her heritage, Jen is inspired with her hands in the dirt, nurturing her crop. The resulting pride and satisfaction of connecting and educating consumers to locally grown, seasonal flowers as well as providing a unique, inspiration backdrop is immeasurable to Jen.
Tyrell is a farmer at heart and jack of all trades. He is responsible for the construction and maintenance of all projects and venues on the farm. With a focus on upcycling and uniqueness - the shipping container barn, greenhouse, outhouse, pergola event space, photo booth, The SILO Farm Store and landscaping have all been designed and built by Tyrell since they acquired their property in 2015.
